when to schedule your newborn session

Today, I'm sharing some tips and ideas for making your newborn photography session run seamlessly and smoothly.  Most clients contact me in the second or third trimester, well prior to baby's arrival and the chaos that can ensue.  Their plans are almost always to bring baby to the studio for the portrait session.  Once baby arrives, however, the idea of leaving the house can seem daunting and stressful.  I'm here to help with that!  1. Don't stress over baby's clothing!  We have everything needed for dressing your baby.  From gender neutral wraps and swaddles to blush pink or soft blues... we have plenty of great options for you to pick from.  Most of my pieces can be mixed and layered, so it's easy to pick something that will look customized for your shoot.  2. Scheduling your appointment between 7 and 14 days is best.  Babies are usually getting in a groove with their feeding schedule by then and if you're nursing, milk has come in by this point. 3. Heat is key!  If you're shooting in-studio, prepare to be warm.  Dress yourself and your partner in layers for your comfort.  Babies are generally sleepiest when they are warm and we shoot much of the session with baby unclothed, so warm air is a must.  If we are shooting at-home, please turn up your heat if it's winter and shut of the AC in ...

when to schedule your newborn session

This handsome little soul was born to my sister and brother-in-law, so that means he's my NEPHEW.  Ooh, I love saying that!  His name has extra special meaning, which I know he will carry proudly through his life.  Geronimo.  It's said Geronimo is a word used to "express exhilaration."  He was a long time waited for and a long time coming, but absolutely worth every day spent without him and so exhilarating now that he's here.  He's changed everything. I drove to New York for his newborn session, capturing him in the beautiful light of their foyer.  Shooting in-studio allows for use of all newborn props and clothing, but shooting at-home has benefits, too.  My sister enjoyed some much-needed quiet time while I worked with Jonas.  With a brand-new baby, solitude is a rare thing and she soaked it up!  And I loved getting some peaceful snuggles from my new nephew... we bonded a lot that afternoon and even though he's far away, he's always in my heart. Here are some of my favorites from our session together... I hope you enjoy them!

when to schedule your newborn session

Thanks so much for joining me here on the Nestled blog! I have an adorable family for you today and they are super close to my heart.  I have captured so many milestones for the T family… from their engagement photos on Julie’s family’s local farm, next was their wedding and shortly after- pregnancy photos.  Miss Sadie Mae made her arrival the year after they got married- what a sweet way to celebrate!  Now here we are a few years later and they’re back again with Emery Rose, their Valentine’s baby.  I could not be more honored to get to capture this family’s journey… it means everything to me when established clients return for photos.  <3
